Shockwave Therapy in Belle Vernon

What is Shockwave Therapy?
Shockwave therapy is a safe, non-invasive treatment proven to be an effective aid in many musculoskeletal conditions including: plantar fascitis, rotator cuff injuries, shoulder pain, knee injuries, golfer’s elbow, tennis elbow, and many more! This cutting-edge technology is designed to target stubborn soft tissue injuries, helping break down scar tissue and muscle adhesions to improve blood flow for faster recovery.
How does it work?
Shockwave therapy works by using a device to deliver acoustic, or “sound”, waves through the skin into the muscles of the affected area. Despite the name, these waves are physical in nature and not electrical. These audible, low-energy sound waves increase the blood flow to the area to promote healing of the injured tissue.
In addition to the increased blood flow, the shockwaves provide constant stimulation of the nerve endings in the area which helps to desensitize them and reduce pain. Then, the shockwaves create small micro-trauma to the muscle tissue which allows your body to focus on healing the affected area.
How does it fit in with chiropractic care?
Many of our patients have chronic pain from old sports injuries or surgery that have not responded to traditional methods of treatment. Shockwave therapy has proven to be an effective way to allow our patients to start to see some improvement in both chronic and acute injuries.
